Travel Time Pay
Some nonexempt positions within SPM require travel. SPM pays nonexempt employees for travel time in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). For purposes of this policy, the regular workday is 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 (Monday – Friday).
Home to Work Travel
An employee who travels from home before the regular workday and returns to his or her home at the end of the workday is engaged in ordinary home to work travel, which is not work time.
Work Schedule
Typically, employees are scheduled to work between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. or as directed. Office personnel generally work 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, the company may change the work hours in order to meet business demands. Any alternate or flexible work schedules may be considered, needs of the company permitting, and must be coordinated with the rest of the department to ensure there is adequate departmental coverage.
Hourly employees cannot work hours outside your normal schedule except when required by business needs and approved by a manager or supervisor in advance. If you come to work early, you must not start work prior to your scheduled start time or prior to clocking in. Hourly employees are permitted to punch in up to five minutes prior to their scheduled start time.
Rest and Meal Periods
The Company strives to provide a safe and healthy work environment and complies with all federal and state regulations regarding rest and meal periods. Please check with
your supervisor regarding procedures and schedules for rest and meal breaks. The Company requests that employees accurately observe and record meal and rest periods. If you know in advance that you may not be able to take your scheduled break or meal period, please let your supervisor know; in addition, notify your supervisor if you were unable to or prohibited from taking a rest or meal period at the soonest opportunity.
Rest Periods (Breaks)
The Company may provide paid rest periods. Specific times are established based upon your scheduled work hours and are subject to change due to business necessity. Employees must stay at their work area (machines) until the Break Bell rings and must return at their scheduled restart time. Your supervisor will keep you advised of when your rest periods are scheduled.
Meal Periods (Lunch Breaks)
An unpaid meal period of 30 minutes is normally at 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Employees must stay at their work area (machines) until the lunch bell rings and must return at their scheduled restart time of 12:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. Taking a duty-free meal period by the fifth (5th) hour of work each workday is mandatory
